The River of Dreams, oil on canvas 70 x 100 cm
The calm azure water in the river reflects the slightly cloudy summer sky. But it doesn’t look that way to the pilgrims, who move in a steady stream from the cold caves in the mountains to the fairytale castle on the other side of the water. An unrelenting anxiety grips them, a premonition of something sinister approaching from the east. A huge bird hovering above the orderly moving convoy tries to follow them and protect them. It’s too late though – war has begun.
Chaos pretends to be some kind of order, but the world is not getting better. A train bound for nowhere is controlled by a suspiciously calm driver. The Siamese cat appears to be dozing, but in fact it is slowly turning into a stream of water. Who is hiding beneath the surface of the deep blue water? Is it a bottle that turns into a snake or a pipe that reaches for the ghostly light that shines through the prison bars? Another cat – which side of the bars does it live on? And who collects mushrooms behind bars? Only Cassiopeia, the lonely sheep, calmly watches over the red button. Everything is clear for her.
The stray cat did not become a stray cat by choice. Long time ago his owners took him far from home and abandoned him, so far that it took him years to return. The last mile on a clear autumn day is disappointing. Everything has changed, only the road to the town and the church, turned into ruins, remain.
